Microsoft Excel, Intermediate
This hands-on class covers the skills and information needed to create complex worksheets and to effectively analyze, extract and present actionable information from existing data. It is designed for anyone who already has a strong foundational knowledge of Excel and wishes to develop greater proficiency and mastery. Emphasis will be given to the use of advanced functions and PivotTables.
Class format will provide time for the instructor to recommend best practices, explain new concepts, introduce shortcuts, and answer questions. Participants will have time to apply new skills to real‑world scenarios.
Topics include:
Prerequisite: Excel Fundamentals or equivalent knowledge
Using defined names to map data & simplify formulas/functions
Identifying & utilizing specialized functions on an as-needed basis
Decoding complex function syntax & arguments
Using logical functions to embed decision making into calculations
Transitioning from standard to conditional summary functions
Using functions to pass argument information via nesting
Calculating data and time information in Excel
Manipulating text strings with formulas/functions
Sorting, filtering and subtotaling datasets
Converting ordinary data ranges to Table Objects
Using the Table Object functionality to quickly transform data
Leveraging dynamic ranges to minimize ongoing maintenance
Using formula-based conditional formatting to highlight related data
Selecting, creating, modifying and formatting charts
Creating dual-axis combo charts with forecasting & trend lines
Determining when to Use Table Objects vs. Pivot Tables
Summarizing large datasets with PivotTables and PivotCharts
Analyzing and refining PivotTable reports
Switching between cross tabulation and nested outline reports
Redefining how summary values are calculated & displayed
Creating interactive filters with Slicers & Timelines
Extracting PivotTable supporting data on the fly

Attendance
Registered participants who fail to attend a class ('no-shows') will be charged full class cost. The 'no-show' fee may not be used as a credit for another EN class, or other type of event or service.
Cancellations made less than 10 business days prior to start of class will be charged full class cost. The charge may not be used as a credit for another EN class. or other type of event or service however, substitutions are welcome.
